It's Show Season and Spring Has Sprung

on March 25, 2019

What's going on at Fussels Fine Foods...

As I walked early this morning a flash of something caught my eye; a tiny perfect Wren who then started singing at the top of her voice. When I returned, she was flitting across the lane busy nest building. As I travelled a little further, a pair of Wagtails were courting as the sun was creeping over the hedge. A touch of spring romance! Fine Foods are currently busy preparing for the Show Season, Exeter Food Festival being the first, on the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend 4-6 May. Great Festival at Exeter Castle. This will be followed by Christchurch, St. Ives, Springtide and River Cottage – May is a crazy month but I love it! Check out our website calendar to see where we are!

Donald is settling in well as our Sales Accounts Manager and together he and Tim are busy securing new business. Andrew continues to keep a handle on all our Social Media platforms and everything financial. Nothing phases Mariusz, who has been with us almost 2 years now, keeping on top of maintaining all things to do with the press and filling as well as keeping our vehicles clean among many other jobs. We now have a great team, driving the business forward. Do remember that we have a ‘factory’ shop at our premises and you can get 50% off a 500ml bottle of Cold Pressed Rapeseed oil, if you bring your 'Link' advert voucher!

On the Farm...

Shaun has been busy but inevitably juggling with the weather. We are set for some sunny days and so do look out for him on the tractor preparing the fields for the spring crops of oats and maize. He will be planting towards the end of April, early May. Within the Dairy industry there is currently a huge shortage of fodder and so this Summer we will be growing as much maize as we can. This means that any ‘spare’ land will be put down to maize. This will include Brown’s Ground, where currently Tom’s sheep are nibbling the grass away. The ground will be prepared shortly. This will mean that the footpath will run top to bottom and we would ask that you keep your dogs on a lead so they do not worry the sheep or run about and cause damage to the crop. This is, in fact, the route of the footpath, although recently Andy has allowed dog walkers to walk around the field!

The rapeseed and wheat are now moving fast and some of the rapeseed is looking like it will be in flower very soon, which really does mean Spring has sprung.

At the Yard...

The Yard still continues to be busy with Rode Haulage and other HGV’s queuing for the Weighbridge, keeping Henry on the go! The Blending and Storage side of the business never seems to stop either; there are always lorries waiting to be loaded or unloaded. There is also lots of traffic in and out for our Builder’s Merchants FABs, where Pete and his team provide excellent customer service and a wide range of products.

Do keep in touch with us via our website, Facebook, Fussels Fans, Twitter and Instagram.
